Course Overview
This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They support children’s wellbeing, and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators use a range of well-developed skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under the guidance of others, though in some contexts that guidance may not be on-site.
Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 160 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Course Duration
The program is intended to be delivered across a 44 week period (38 weeks + 6 weeks holidays) but some students may require additional time to prepare for demonstration of knowledge and practical skills. As such, CLJ Training offers a further extension to the program to allow for this additional time. Trainers/assessors control the release of learning materials and assessments to students based on their individual progress. Trainers/assessors determine the individual’s readiness for assessment based on their weekly interactions and observations of the student.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements imposed by the training package. CLJ Learners will be required to participate in a formal pre-training review process where CLJ staff determine suitability for the intended program. Learners will need to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to undertake a Certificate III level qualification. They will also be required to demonstrate digital capabilities to confidently navigate online course content including additional learning resources and assessments.
Learners will also be required to undertake a successful Working with Children Check as this is required to work in industry and participate in the mandatory placement component. CLJ will facilitate the check and documentation must be provided to CLJ within the first 4 weeks from commencement of training.
